This isn’t a common children’s book. With its black cover and simple illustrations, it catches the eye, standing amongst all the colorfull, happy picturebooks on the shelves in the bookstore.

Jon Klassen is a wonderfull storyteller and illustrator. ‘This is not my hat’ outshines in simplicity. So it seems. The words an illustrations are so brilliant and subtle, their wonderfull combination cause a smile on your face.

The story

When a tiny fish shoots into view wearing a round blue topper (which happens to fit him perfectly), trouble could be following close behind. So it’s a good thing that enormous fish won’t wake up. And even if he does, it’s not like he’ll ever know what happened. . . . Visual humor swims to the fore as the best-selling Jon Klassen follows his breakout debut with another deadpan-funny tale.

Children will have to get used to the fact that the story isn’t pointed out to them, but that they have to discover the punch line for themselves. A good way to trigger their minds.
